Goolawah Co-op – Facts & Figures
Timeline
- Spring 2000: Land purchased & Co-operative established.
- From 2001: building roads, dams, community kitchen & garden, playground.
- April 2013: Kempsey Shire Council gives development consent under SEPP 15 for a rural land sharing co-operative, allowing for 78 building sites to be developed.
- Oct 2020: Goolawah Co-op celebrates 20th birthday anniversary.
Location
NSW Mid North Coast between Port Macquarie, Kempsey and Crescent Head
Land
The Co-Op owns 1600 acres of land, with 78 shares and lots of 1.25 acres each. The 78 shares are held by 69 members (some members have more than one share) and the undeveloped land consists mainly of bushland, swamp and forest.
Residents
122 people (including 20 children) live permanently on the Co-op. Other members are in the process of developing their sites for occupation.
